Development of an automated avalanche terrain exposure scale (ATES v2) maps: Current and future

Co-author(s): John Sykes, Andrew Schauer, Jordy Hendrikx, Rosemary Langford, Grant Statham, Cam Campbell, Michael Neuhauser, Jan-Thomas Fischer

The Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES) is a terrain classification system developed by Parks Canada to better communicate the complexities and risks of traveling in avalanche prone terrain. Larsen et al., (2020) extended this model, and developed an automated ATES v1 and mapped all of Norway. The aims of this presentation are to present the current and ongoing development towards an automated ATES v2.0 model, which can uniformly be applied to avalanche terrain worldwide.
