Svalbard’s climate is undergoing rapid change, with potentially dramatic consequences for the region’s snow avalanche climate. We use a record of crowd-sourced avalanche activity combined with ERA5 atmospheric reanalysis data to characterize the synoptic atmospheric circulation patterns associated with major avalanche activity. These analyses provide an avenue to compare avalanche records with studies of atmospheric changes, creating a foundation for future climate change related studies.
