Rethinking the Heuristic Traps Paradigm in Avalanche Education

The framework of decision heuristics anchored and was critical in the discussion around avalanche accidents and represented an important step in recognizing the importance of human factors in avalanche accidents.  As presently framed, the concepts are of negligible value to science-based avalanche education. We suggest more fully operationalizing key concepts and standardizing our research methodologies.
