OPTICE: The optical properties of dust in snow and ice to investigate the climate change, improve avalanche evaluation and refine the snow management
The OPTICE project aims at studying the optical properties of airborne dust in snow and ice cores. The project is focused on determining the extinction and absorption cross sections of the solid particles. Dust can affect the snowpack reducing the albedo and it can lead the methamorphism and the formation of hoar crystals weak layers. For these reasons, this multidisciplinary project is mandatory to increase knowledges on climate change, avalanche forecasting and snow management.
